A growing company in the construction and building materials space is seeking a Director of Finance to join their leadership team. This 4–5 month contract role, based onsite in Toronto (5 days per week), offers strong exposure to executive decision-making, process improvement, and multi-branch financial operations. About the Role
Reporting to the executive leadership team, this position oversees the organization’s financial operations and ensures accurate, compliant, and timely reporting across all business units. The role also focuses on strengthening internal controls, guiding accounting staff, and supporting strategic decision-making.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee the daily accounting function, including accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, and inventory tracking.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
- Monitor and analyze project and branch-level profitability, collaborating closely with operations and project accounting teams.
- Maintain and enhance internal control systems to safeguard assets and streamline processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports for leadership and corporate review.
- Coordinate external audits and tax remittances, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all filings.
- Deliver financial analysis and insights to support executive decision-making and business planning.
- Provide mentorship and oversight to accounting staff within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a senior accounting or controllership role.
- Proven track record in multi-branch reporting and consolidations.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in construction, project-based, or distribution accounting is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills.
