A reputable organization in the real estate sector is looking for a Property Accountant to join their finance team. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of full-cycle property accounting for a diverse portfolio while collaborating closely with operations and property management. It’s ideal for someone with a strong foundation in real estate accounting who enjoys both analytical work and cross-functional communication.

About the Role
Reporting to a senior finance leader and working closely with property managers, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting functions for a portfolio of real estate assets. This includes preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and supporting budget and forecast processes. You’ll also assist in analyzing variances, coordinating with auditors, and managing tenant-related financial matters.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules with variance analysis
  • Complete billing processes for rents, management fees, and tenant recoveries
  • Handle tax filings and remittances (e.g., sales and non-resident taxes)
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and facilitate monthly distributions
  • Track capital expenditures and flag variances in collaboration with property teams
  • Review receivables and assist with resolving tenant inquiries
  • Support budget creation, CAM/tax reconciliations, and annual forecasting
  • Enter lease details and amendments into accounting systems
  • Ensure accuracy in payables coding and update recovery matrices as needed
  • Organize and maintain all financial records related to assigned properties
  • Contribute to system setup for new properties, asset sales, and other special projects
What You Bring
  • A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
  • At least 2 years of experience in property or real estate accounting
  • CPA designation (or in progress) is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with forecasting, budgeting, and expense recoveries
  • Proficiency with Excel and general accounting software; experience with property management platforms is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • A proactive, client-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills
