About the Role
Reporting to a senior finance leader and working closely with property managers, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting functions for a portfolio of real estate assets. This includes preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and supporting budget and forecast processes. You’ll also assist in analyzing variances, coordinating with auditors, and managing tenant-related financial matters.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules with variance analysis
- Complete billing processes for rents, management fees, and tenant recoveries
- Handle tax filings and remittances (e.g., sales and non-resident taxes)
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and facilitate monthly distributions
- Track capital expenditures and flag variances in collaboration with property teams
- Review receivables and assist with resolving tenant inquiries
- Support budget creation, CAM/tax reconciliations, and annual forecasting
- Enter lease details and amendments into accounting systems
- Ensure accuracy in payables coding and update recovery matrices as needed
- Organize and maintain all financial records related to assigned properties
- Contribute to system setup for new properties, asset sales, and other special projects
- A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
- At least 2 years of experience in property or real estate accounting
- CPA designation (or in progress) is considered an asset
- Familiarity with forecasting, budgeting, and expense recoveries
- Proficiency with Excel and general accounting software; experience with property management platforms is a plus
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
