About the Role
Reporting to a senior member of the credit or finance team, the Underwriter will assess complex lending opportunities across commercial and construction portfolios. You’ll work closely with internal teams to ensure thoughtful risk evaluation and play a key role in supporting strategic lending decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze commercial and construction loan applications, assessing credit worthiness and risk exposure
- Conduct detailed reviews of financial statements, project budgets, and borrower profiles
- Identify and address potential risks, inconsistencies, or red flags in underwriting packages
- Collaborate with internal partners to structure loan terms in alignment with policy and market conditions
- Prepare credit memos and presentations to support lending decisions
- Stay informed on market trends, regulations, and best practices to inform underwriting strategy
- Contribute to ongoing process improvements and system enhancements
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline
- Experience underwriting commercial or construction loans
- Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to interpret risk across diverse lending scenarios
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to solving problems
- Comfortable working with evolving technologies, including AI-driven underwriting tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Preference for working in mid-sized, agile financial environments rather than large institutions
- Prior experience in financial services, commercial lending, or credit analysis is a strong asset
