A growing organization is seeking a hands-on accounting professional to lead and manage the month-end close process while overseeing a small accounting team. This role is ideal for someone with strong practical accounting experience who can work independently, follow established processes, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

About the Role

Reporting to finance leadership, this position will oversee day-to-day accounting operations and take ownership of the monthly close cycle. The successful candidate will supervise accounting staff, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure accounting processes are completed efficiently and consistently.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage the monthly book close process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
  • Supervise and support a small accounting team, providing guidance on day-to-day activities
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and general ledger transactions
  • Complete account reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation, including T-account analysis
  • Prepare and file indirect tax returns, including HST filings
  • Follow established accounting processes, checklists, and internal procedures
  • Support ongoing financial reporting and ensure the integrity of accounting records
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Assist with process improvements and ad hoc accounting projects as needed

What You Bring

  • Strong practical accounting experience with hands-on involvement in month-end close processes
  • Experience supervising or overseeing accounting staff is preferred
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal oversight
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • CPA designation is not required; practical experience and the ability to manage the accounting cycle effectively are most important
