About the Role

This position plays a key role in managing the financial side of assigned projects, from budgeting and billing through forecasting and final closeout. Working closely with project managers and senior leadership, the Construction Accountant will provide accurate reporting, identify financial risks and opportunities, and help drive informed decisions throughout each project.

What You’ll Do

  • Review invoices, expenses, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and alignment with project requirements
  • Work with vendors and subcontractors regarding billing, payments, documentation, and compliance requirements
  • Partner with project managers to monitor costs, forecasts, commitments, and expected project outcomes
  • Investigate variances between actual and budgeted costs and recommend appropriate corrective action
  • Prepare monthly project billings and coordinate the distribution of required payment documentation
  • Manage accounts receivable activities and support timely collection of outstanding balances
  • Prepare project financial reports, profitability analysis, cash flow information, and ad-hoc reporting for leadership
  • Participate in regular project reviews and challenge assumptions around costs, revenue, profitability, and forecasts
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and work with project teams to develop mitigation strategies
  • Ensure project records and financial documentation remain complete, accurate, and organized through project closeout
  • Support contract administration and help ensure financial activities comply with relevant agreements and organizational policies
  • Assist with year-end audits, quarterly reporting, working papers, and other financial requirements
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and operational teams when contractual or financial issues arise
  • Contribute to process improvements that increase financial accuracy, efficiency, and visibility

What You Bring

  • Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA designation or progress toward the designation is an asset
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a project-based environment
  • Experience in construction, engineering, consulting, infrastructure, or a similar industry is preferred
  • Strong understanding of project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Ability to analyze financial information and translate findings into practical recommendations
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a highly organized approach to financial administration
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with project managers, operational teams, vendors, and senior leadership
  • Comfortable working closely with on-site or field-based operations teams and travelling to assigned projects when required

Why Join

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the financial performance of meaningful projects while working alongside experienced operational and leadership teams. The role provides broad exposure across accounting, commercial management, forecasting, risk, and project operations, making it a strong fit for someone looking to deepen their expertise and expand their impact beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.
