About the Role

A multi-entity organization with operations across North America is seeking a hands-on Controller to join its finance leadership team. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, strengthening accounting processes and controls, and providing meaningful financial insights that support business decision-making.

Reporting to senior finance leadership, the Controller will lead the accounting function across multiple entities, oversee the monthly close process, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and contribute to finance transformation initiatives. This position is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys balancing strategic involvement with day-to-day operational leadership.

 

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Lead the preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and supporting reconciliations.
  • Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities.
  • Analyze financial results and prepare variance reporting against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Support the preparation of management, lender, and board reporting packages.
  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools that improve visibility into business performance.
  • Partner with finance leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Assist with financial analysis and business case development for key organizational initiatives.

Accounting Operations & Controls

  • Oversee general ledger activities, reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Manage multi-entity accounting, including consolidations, intercompany transactions, and foreign currency considerations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Coordinate annual audits and collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial partners.
  • Review indirect tax filings and support payroll oversight, compliance, and related reconciliations.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Provide guidance on complex accounting issues, non-routine transactions, and evolving accounting requirements.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support finance system enhancements, ERP implementations, and accounting process modernization initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial data integrity across key business processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen scalability, efficiency, and financial visibility.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and day-to-day guidance to accounting team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
  • Establish clear priorities and objectives while promoting continuous learning and growth.
  • Act as a trusted resource for technical accounting questions and operational challenges.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • CPA designation.
  • Progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities within a corporate accounting environment.
  • Experience managing consolidated financial reporting and multi-entity accounting structures.
  • Proven success leading month-end close processes and producing management-level financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build, analyze, and validate financial statements and reporting models.
  • Experience participating in major finance system implementations, upgrades, or transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on accounting responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

What You Bring

  • Experience in distribution, retail, wholesale, manufacturing, or other inventory-focused environments.
  • Exposure to lender reporting, banking relationships, and financing arrangements.
  • Experience overseeing payroll operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence, reporting, or data visualization tools.
  • Background supporting ERP implementations, system integrations, or large-scale finance projects.
