A well-capitalized organization within the private investment and asset-backed sector is seeking a hands-on Director of Tax to lead its corporate tax function. This is a high-impact role for a technically strong tax professional who enjoys owning outcomes, navigating complexity, and building scalable processes in a fast-paced environment. This opportunity is well-suited to someone who thrives in execution-heavy roles, understands sophisticated private enterprise structures, and wants direct exposure to executive decision-making.

About the Role
Reporting directly to executive leadership, this position is responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of corporate tax across a large, multi-entity structure. You will play a central role in tax strategy, compliance, and risk management while building internal capabilities and workflows to support long-term growth.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and execute the full corporate tax cycle across a large, multi-entity structure, including partnerships, holding entities, and joint ventures
  • Design and implement tax-efficient structures aligned with long-term business and investment objectives
  • Prepare, review, and oversee annual corporate tax returns, elections, and related disclosures
  • Manage internal tax workflows and filing calendars to ensure timely, accurate compliance
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors while bringing core tax execution in-house
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, legal, and executive leadership
  • Mentor and manage a small internal tax support team
  • Build scalable processes, documentation, and internal controls to support growth and governance
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess planning opportunities and compliance risks
What You Bring
  • CPA designation; completion of or enrollment in an advanced tax program is a strong asset
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Canadian corporate tax, ideally from a public accounting firm at the Manager or Senior Manager level or an in-house tax role within a complex private organization
  • Proven experience managing tax matters across large, multi-entity corporate groups
  • Strong technical knowledge of partnerships, reorganizations, and intercompany planning
  • Ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable guidance for business leaders
  • A hands-on, accountable mindset with a focus on execution and outcomes
Why Join
This role offers direct access to executive leadership and full ownership of the tax function. You’ll have the opportunity to build and shape an internal tax capability within a growing, entrepreneurial organization that values accountability, speed, and high-quality execution.
