About the Role
Reporting to a head of finance, this position combines core controllership responsibilities with business partnering and financial analysis. You'll work closely with teams across the organization, providing financial insight, maintaining strong accounting controls, and helping leaders make informed decisions.
The role is particularly well suited to someone at the Senior Accountant, Senior Financial Analyst, or Assistant Finance Manager level who is ready to broaden their responsibilities and develop toward a future leadership position.
What You'll Do
Financial Operations & Controllership
- Support the record-to-report process, including reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis
- Contribute to month-end close activities and help ensure financial information is complete and accurate
- Review purchasing and expenditure processes to understand how transactions flow through the business
- Investigate and explain financial variances in partnership with operational teams
- Provide accounting guidance and step in on more technical matters when required
- Help maintain appropriate financial controls and reporting standards
Business Partnering
- Partner with teams such as Marketing, Supply Chain, and other operational groups to provide financial guidance
- Review budgets and forecasts prepared by business leaders, providing financial challenge, oversight, and support
- Assist with investment and return-on-investment analysis
- Prepare financial insights and materials to support business performance discussions
- Translate financial results into practical recommendations for stakeholders
Working Capital & Cash Management
- Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory trends
- Analyze movements in working capital and identify opportunities for improvement
- Support cash management activities and help maintain visibility into short-term financial requirements
- Work with internal teams to understand the operational drivers behind working capital performance
Growth & Development
- Take on additional responsibilities as knowledge of the business develops
- Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives outside the core finance remit
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and financial visibility
- Develop broader commercial and operational knowledge with the potential to grow into a larger finance leadership role
What You Bring
- Approximately 3–5 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or a related role
- Strong foundation in financial accounting and controllership
- Experience with reconciliations, financial reporting, variance analysis, and month-end processes
- Understanding of purchasing, expenditure, and working capital processes
- Experience working with product-based businesses, such as consumer goods, retail, or manufacturing, is an asset
- Public accounting experience with exposure to relevant industry clients will also be considered
- CPA designation or progress toward a professional designation is an asset, but not required
- Strong Excel skills and experience with an ERP or financial management system
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Comfortable working in a lean environment where flexibility and a hands-on approach are important
