Reporting to a senior finance leader, the Manager, Operational Finance will provide hands-on financial support to operational and project teams. The position will play an important role in understanding cost performance, monitoring budgets and forecasts, identifying financial risks, and supporting informed business decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze operating and project costs, identify key cost drivers, and investigate significant variances against budgets and forecasts
- Prepare financial reporting for projects, including expenditure tracking, budget monitoring, and cost trend analysis
- Partner with operational and project leaders to investigate financial variances, identify risks, and recommend practical actions
- Support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting for operating and capital expenditures
- Contribute to month-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, cost coding, and allocation reviews
- Ensure costs are recorded accurately and appropriately classified between operating expenses and capital investments
- Monitor project commitments and spending to support accurate financial reporting and forecasts
- Prepare clear financial reports and communicate key findings to finance leadership and non-financial stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to strengthen cost reporting, project accounting processes, and financial controls
- Support senior finance leadership with analysis and other operational finance initiatives
What You Bring
- Strong experience in cost accounting, cost analysis, variance analysis, and project accounting
- Experience supporting operational budgets, capital expenditures, and project financial reporting
- Background in a capital-intensive or project-driven environment is an asset
- Ability to investigate financial results, understand the operational factors behind variances, and translate findings into clear recommendations
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP or accounting systems
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
- Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- CPA designation or progress toward a professional accounting designation is considered an asset
