A community-focused organization is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join its Finance and People Operations team. This position offers the opportunity to manage end-to-end payroll while partnering with HR and leadership to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. About the Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will oversee full-cycle payroll processing, maintain payroll records, ensure compliance with applicable legislation, and respond to employee payroll inquiries. You'll also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support payroll systems, reporting, audits, and continuous process improvements.

What You'll Do

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for a large employee population, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Review and validate employee time records, payroll changes, and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and leaders while resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, benefit changes, and direct deposit updates.
  • Prepare payroll remittances, government filings, pension contributions, benefit deductions, and other required reports.
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including tax reporting and statutory reconciliations.
  • Support payroll audits and provide required documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR to produce payroll-related reports and maintain data integrity.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal users of payroll systems and assist with process documentation and training.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, workflows, and system functionality.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling employee and payroll information.

What You'll Bring

  • Diploma or post-secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, Payroll, or a related field.
  • Payroll certification (or progress toward one) is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-cycle payroll experience.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and year-end payroll processes.
  • Advanced attention to detail with excellent numerical accuracy and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with payroll or HR information systems.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and bilingual communication skills are considered assets.
