A growing professional services organization is seeking a Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager to join its accounting team. This opportunity is ideal for a CPA who combines strong technical accounting and tax expertise with a genuine interest in client relationships, team development, and long-term career advancement.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of complex accounting files, contribute to practical tax-planning discussions, mentor junior colleagues, and develop toward a broader leadership role.

About the Role

Reporting to senior leadership, you will oversee accounting and tax compliance for a portfolio of private clients and businesses. Alongside preparing and reviewing financial statements and tax returns, you will identify tax-planning opportunities, support junior team members, and work closely with leadership to deliver thoughtful, personalized client service.

This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced public accounting professional who is ready to take on greater responsibility and grow into a trusted client adviser. The role is primarily office-based and offers direct exposure to leadership, client advisory work, and future management opportunities.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and review financial statements, accounting files, working papers, and supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepare personal and corporate tax returns for individuals, professional corporations, private companies, and owner-managed businesses.

  • Analyze client circumstances to identify practical tax-planning opportunities and develop recommendations for leadership review.

  • Evaluate compensation strategies, including salary and dividend considerations, and support related tax-planning discussions.

  • Review accounting and tax files before final approval, resolving discrepancies and minimizing the need for further corrections.

  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior accounting staff, review their work, and help develop their professional capabilities.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on client matters, tax-planning strategies, and complex accounting questions.

  • Build strong client relationships by understanding individual needs, responding thoughtfully to inquiries, and providing dependable service.

  • Identify opportunities to address broader client needs and communicate relevant recommendations to leadership.

  • Contribute to a positive team environment through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and a commitment to high-quality work.

What You Bring

  • CPA designation.

  • Approximately 4–5 years of progressive public accounting experience; candidates with equivalent technical expertise and supervisory readiness may also be considered.

  • Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, accounting files, and personal and corporate tax returns.

  • Experience working with private companies, professional corporations, entrepreneurs, or individual clients with complex financial needs.

  • Practical knowledge of tax planning, including salary and dividend strategies.

  • Ability to independently manage accounting files, identify technical issues, and ensure work is complete and accurate before final review.

  • Experience mentoring junior colleagues or a demonstrated readiness to take on supervisory responsibilities.

  • Strong organizational skills, sound professional judgment, and excellent attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to explain accounting and tax matters clearly.

  • A client-focused mindset, with empathy, discretion, patience, and a genuine interest in helping people.

Experience in a small or mid-sized public accounting practice is particularly valuable, especially for candidates who enjoy a hands-on environment and direct involvement in client matters.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to advance your public accounting career within a collaborative, growth-oriented organization that values technical excellence, personalized client service, and meaningful professional relationships. You'll work closely with senior leadership, take ownership of client engagements, contribute to tax-planning strategies, and mentor junior team members while continuing to develop your technical and leadership capabilities.

For the right candidate, the role offers a potential pathway to partnership, along with the opportunity to build lasting client relationships and make a meaningful difference in the financial lives of individuals, families, and business owners.
